Meet my husband, Mike
He is by far my better half and the most wonderful person I have ever met. There are a lot of things that I cannot do on my own. We’ll cover more about that later, but in a nutshell I can’t dress myself, shower or take care of the prep work that is necessary for me to be alone all day while everyone is at work. Mike handles all that plus works at least 60 hours a week on top of his hour and a half commute. He’s a diesel mechanic by day & works on all our vehicles & whoever needs help by night. Plus he’s a Sunday School teacher at our little Missionary Baptist church. Since I usually can’t cook dinner by myself, he takes care of that too when the kids are working late. To top it all off, he’s the spiritual head of our household. I thank God for him every day.
Michael Jr is our firstborn. At this writing he’s 26 years old and recently he finished up serving 4 years in the United States Air Force. Mike has moved back home & I love having him here. I’m the kind of Momma that needs all her babies around her so I’m completely happy. I always taught my kids to cook because I thought it was an important skill to have. But while Mike was away, he perfected the skill. So we’re blessed with whatever dinner ideas he concocts when he isn’t kept out late at work. Right now he works with the US Air Guard as a jet propulsion mechanic . He will be leaving in the fall to go to flight school to get his bachelor’s in aviation, his lifelong dream.
Megan is our beautiful 23 year old daughter. She also lives at home and recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management with a minor in Spanish. This young lady never ceases to amaze me. She earned numerous scholarships & worked 40 hours a week in our supermarket bakery while going to school full time and basically paid her own way for college. She currently works in a local bank as a teller. She is my best friend and the one who really pushes me to get off the couch and try new things. A fun nickname she’s given me is “Big Tater”. We all have different ideas of how this came about but bottom line: nobody really knows when this unflattering nickname began, but it stuck.
Matthew is our youngest at 21 years old. Matt is the most kind-hearted, generous person I know. When he graduated from high school he told me he wanted to go live with his brother, Mike, who was stationed in Missouri in the USAF. As uncomfortable as I was about him leaving home, I knew he would be safe and in good company. The plan was that he was to come home when Mike finished his time in the Midwest. While Mike came home, Matt did not. He met a young lady when he was out there and in August of 2018, he married Samantha. Matt is a super hard worker who works for a foundry and Sam is a CNA. I miss them every single day and I’m so thankful for texting because I need that connection.
And last, but certainly not least, our baby, Ruby. She is our 6 yr old mixed breed rescue dog. She’s spoiled beyond belief, but she’s an all around good girl. When we first got her, it was right before back to school & Mike Jr was leaving for the Air Force. I was totally unprepared to take care of a puppy with everyone leaving but she trained fast & became a terrific companion. We all couldn’t imagine life without her.
