Admit it! We’ve all had those days, or weeks, or even months where we’ve lost our mojo or our ambition and we need some encouragement and inspiration. I personally go through a period of sadness that comes in mid to late March and lasts into early April where I’m sad and just can’t seem to get out of a depression.
I know what it is. It’s called the Anniversary Effect. My point is, that it happens. What do we do when that happens and we need some encouragement? Where do we turn for inspiration?
The Word of God provides encouragement!
Friends and family mean well, but often times they just don’t understand what you’re going through. My solution is to turn to prayer and to the word of God. The Bible is the best source of inspiration and encouragement that you’ll ever find. There are so many scriptures in God’s word that will open your heart and mind. The trick is to open His Word and look. I’ve provided you with 12 of my favorite verses that I go to when I need some encouragement and inspiration.
Words of comfort
I selected these verses because each one reminded me of God’s love and the strength and hope that he provides for us. They are also words of comfort. My prayer is that as you read through these, you are encouraged, inspired and reminded of those same promises.
Isaiah 43:2 ” When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.”
Deut 31:8 “And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.”
2 Cor 1:3-4 “Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”
Psalm 31:24 “Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord.”
Psalm 23:4 “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”
Romans 8:31 “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?”
So there you have it. God’s word will always offer inspiration. Whether you’re feeling down or you just need a reminder. Of course, all you really need to do is open the Word of God to any page and you’ll find inspiration.
As you know, I’ve had my share of ups and downs in my life. I have 1 more verse that I would like to share with you. This is my #1 verse. In fact, it’s my go-to for when I’m feeling down, scared, frustrated or even uncertain about the future.
My favorite Bible verses
Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us to “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths”. Whatever verse you use, it’s all about trust, and its all about the state of your heart.

These are all so pretty! I especially like the sleeping dogs and the picture of God giving us rest. If only I wasn’t so quick to pick up my burdens and then some rather than giving them to God!
Hey Karen,
I think it’s normal for us to want to handle things ourself instead of turning to God. However, with practice and the understanding that He’s quite able to help us overcome, we can develop that new habit of turning to the Lord first.
Loved all of your selections, Wendy. My life verse is Prob. 3:5,6 so am particularly close to that one!
That’s my verse too, Candi. I recall it to memory on a regular basis. Thank you for stopping by.
